Jones Tones  foil transfer on polymer clay

by Xtine Alibert

I developped a new technique to tranfer Jones Tones (or other brands) foils to inked clay!    First you photocopy a nice picture with a toner base ink , then you apply the copy face down on your raw clay. You burnish slightly and you apply acetone on the copy ( 5$ for a quart in your hardware store) with a Q-tip. Apply once or twice till you see your picture through and peel of the paper. The transfer on clay is instant.
Then you place the piece of foil nice ( shiny) side up, you scrape one or two time each side crosswise with the sharp side of your slicing blade . Then you rip off the foil and Voilà!!!! To prevent discoloring of the foil by the heat I apply several coats of Future (Klir in France, Klear in UK) let dry and bake at the usual temperature.
The metallic part has transfered only to the inked part! :-) that means : you now have a nice metallised image on your clay.
I wrote an article on the subject in the december  issue of Jewelery craft magazine (page48)
You can buy Xtine's foil through me or buy Jones tones foil at polymerclayexpress.com or http://www.embroideryadventures.com/
Renaissance delta foil works great too with that technique

Have fun with that new technique !
Another article I wrote on the subjet is in Polymer Café Magazine. (summer 2004 issue)

note: some of the holographic colors do not work with that technique
